How I Became a HuffingtonPost Contributor

Each blogger has some goals when starting a blog… and some not. I didn’t have any particular goal in mind when I started blogging because I was looking at it as a opportunity to express my ideas and creativity. Months were going by and I got to interact with more bloggers online so I developed some goals, for myself. One of them was having an appearance on the big blogging sites like Mashable, HuffingtonPost and so on.

I only developed those goals after joining a Facebook group and noticed so many bloggers get published there. I was intrigued, so I went for it. I did my homework by reading all those Facebook posts, asking for advices and of course, I also found Arianna Huffington’s email  which is the one I sent my blog post pitch to.

I was sort of scared to do it at first because I didn’t want to be on a blacklist as my blog post wouldn’t be good enough. However, I did it, I pressed the send button.

It’s been a week since I sent it but I haven’t got a response. I’ll just wait another week because she may be busy. 2 weeks went by.. still no reply. I’m just gonna send the email again, maybe it got lost. Ugh, it’s been another week. Maybe that meant rejection. And it was, they say “No” by ignoring you.

It’s been some time since I sent my blog post, I felt bad because I really wanted to accomplish this goal so bad. It was midnight (UK time), I was discouraged and sent however another blog post pitch except this time I didn’t really care. I didn’t even wrote “HuffingtonPost” grammatically correct… I pressed “Send”.

It has been 10 minutes and I felt hopeful because that blog post was one of my favorites. I did not send a new blog post to HuffPost but an already posted one on my blog.

15 minutes went by.. I checked my phone and I got an email from Arianna Huffington. I couldn’t believe my eyes because I knew it takes at least 24 hours for her to respond judging by what people were saying.

She thanked me for sharing so personally with her and she also said that they would love to feature my voice on the HuffPost and then she cc’d the email to one of the editors. The editor she cc’d me to was supposed to send me an invitation for the blogging platform so I am able to create my own blogger profile, to publish my blog posts.

After 2 days, I got my invitation and published my blog post. However, something was different from what I’ve heard before. I heard that you had to hit “save” and only after the blog team reviews your blog post, it goes live.

I “hit” publish and my blog post went live instantly.

It felt surreal and truly great I got to accomplish one of those goals. Now I can post whenever I want for the Huffington Post.

Do they pay? No, they offer you the possibility to expose your blog using links.

What’s your traffic increase after being posted on HuffingtonPost? Not even a single click yet because even if my blog post went live, I haven’t been featured on their main page yet.

My HuffPost blog post

Ps. I would have posted screenshots of the blogging platform or emails but I am not sure if I can share that.
